Water damage can be very destructive such that it can destroy a house or a building and everything inside it. Such is very true especially for wooden furniture that needs to be treated as soon as it gets inundated in flood waters. This is because the more it is submerged and untreated, the bigger the damage it sustains.

The Texas A & M University, Agrilife Extension published a guide on how to deal with flood-soaked wooden furniture, among other home items that have been submerged in flooding. They came up with three easy to remember pointers for homeowners. How to Spot Water Damage on Walls

“Brush off mud. All parts (drawers, doors, etc.) should be removed. Remove or cut a hole in the back to push out stuck drawers and doors. Discard flooded padding. Use commercial furniture-cleaning products designed for the type of material. Do not refinish or wax until thoroughly dry.    Dry slowly out of direct sunlight because sun will warp furniture. It may take several weeks to several months to dry.”

The Spruce meanwhile came up with their share of tips on dealing with flooded furniture, and how to try to save them. “Wood furniture may fare better after a flood, especially if it hasn’t been sitting in water for too long. Although furniture made from manufactured products such as plywood or MDF are probably total losses, it is usually possible to restore solid wood furniture unless it has suffered severe damage. Your solid wood furniture will need to be cleaned and dried at the very least. If it has been exposed to water for a long period, the joints or veneers may have to be re-glued.”
